Lawns and Weeds

In Butler County, there are 4 different grasses to choose from for lawns and athletic fields: tall fescue, bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, and buffalograss. Each grass has its benefits and challenges. An attractive lawn can highlight and complement your landscaping and add value to your property.

I'm am planting or overseeding my fescue lawn this fall. When is the best time? What do I need to know to get my grass growing well?

We recommend seeding or sodding fescue in the fall, from September 1st to October 15th. Planting later in the fall may result in winter injury to the new grass. Here are some resources that will help you with planting your lawn.

How can I reduce the amount of water I use on my lawn?

There are many ways to reduce water use, ranging from choosing a more drought tolerant grass to optimizing your sprinkler system. For more information, please visit our page on WaterWise Irrigation.
